Day 1 - UK/Venice
Fly to Venice. Meet your fellow travellers over a drink and dinner this evening.
Day 2 - Venice
Venice, an extraordinary city of canals, palaces and Renaissance architecture, is celebrated the world over. St Mark’s Square is its focal point and home to the Basilica di San Marco and the soaring Campanile. The photogenic Rialto Bridge is the main crossing over the Grand Canal, while the magnificent Doge’s Palace offers a fascinating insight into the history that surrounds the city. Explore all of these sights and more in the company of a Local Guide. There will also be time for a stroll or a gondola ride or perhaps head to a café and enjoy a drink with your fellow travellers.
Day 3 - Bologna
Tuscany’s rolling hills lead us to the ‘Red City’ of Bologna – so-called because of its red-coloured terracotta roofs. Featuring lavish squares and porticoed walkways, the city is also known for its food, as ragù, or Bolognese sauce, originated here. We will pause in Bologna before continuing to Montecatini Terme for a three-night stay. Dinner is included at our hotel this evening.
Day 4 - Florence
Florence is known as Italy’s ‘Art City’. It is home to works by great masters such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. Built beside the River Arno, the city’s compact historic centre can be easily explored on your included excursion today. Stroll across the Ponte Vecchio, climb the steps of the Duomo and admire glorious works of art among the Renaissance streets and piazzas. Be certain to visit Il Porcellino, the statue of a boar located in Mercato Nuovo – if you throw a coin into the grating at its feet and rub its shiny nose, legend has it you will return to this wonderful city one day.
Day 5 - Pisa
Today has been left free for you to spend as you wish. Alternatively, you can choose to join our optional excursion to Pisa, home to one of Italy’s most recognisable sights, the famous Leaning Tower. Residing in the Field of Miracles, this 180ft campanile took 176 years to build and began to lean shortly after construction. On our guided tour we’ll see other highlights including the Duomo, the Baptistry and the Monumental Cemetery.
Day 6 - Siena
Siena is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval cities in Europe. Its enchanting narrow streets lined with palaces and mansions lead to the spectacular Piazza del Campo, which is the setting each year for the colourful and intense Palio horse race. We’ll discover its highlights on our included tour today.
Day 7 - Rome
Rome is bursting with history, world-famous landmarks and an unrivalled vibrancy. As we take a tour of the city we will call at many of its well-known locations including the magnificent Colosseum – the largest Roman amphitheatre to have ever existed – St Peter’s Square and the Vatican City, the world’s smallest independent state. We’ll also take in the Spanish Steps, which join the Piazza di Spagna with the church of Trinita dei Monti, and the famous Trevi Fountain. This Baroque artwork is considered to be the city’s most beautiful fountain. This evening, why not join an optional farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 8 - Rome to UK
Transfer to the airport for you return flight to the UK.
Please note - This holiday involves walking in areas of rough ground, gradients and steps.
