Your Tour Itinerary - The Wonders of Wales

Day 1 Cardiff – Brecon Beacons

We set off from our meeting point in search of the Wales of old before gaining our first glimpse in the National History Museum of Wales at St Fagans followed by a stop via Caerleon to visit the Roman Fortress and Baths. After a fascinating visit, we point our compasses north and take a route through the dramatic Welsh Valleys. If that isn’t enough remarkable scenery for one day, we reach the Brecon Beacons National Park and our beautiful base for the next two nights. (D)

Day 2 Brecon Beacons – Wye Valley – Brecon Beacons

Centuries of history have left their mark on this remarkable landscape. First, we visit the Big Pit National Coal Museum before we travel through the spellbinding scenery that winds through the Wye Valley before we come to the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Tintern Abbey, followed by a wine tasting nearby. Out of the valley we find ourselves at an award-winning vineyard, which brings us to the end of a busy day. (B)

Day 3 Brecon Beacons – Llangollen - Conwy

Our journey takes us further north along the border regions of mid Wales. We reach Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the longest and highest structure of its kind and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, we enjoy an afternoon tea together. By evening, we’ll have taken in staggering architecture and stately homes, so it’s only right we add traditional Welsh culture to the mix. Tonight a Welsh male voice choir treats us to a performance in Llandudno. Then it’s on to our Conwy hotel, where we stay for the next three nights. (B)

Day 4 Conwy

After an eventful few days, today is all about you with free time to explore Conwy. (B)

Day 5 Conwy – Caernarfon Castle – Nant Gwrtheyrn – Conwy

We turn west today and make for the Llanberis Slate Mine, Caernarfon Castle, once a royal palace built for Edward I before we head to Nant Gwrtheyrn, home to the fascinating Welsh Language Heritage Centre located in a former quarrying village. We don’t just stretch our legs when we get here, we flex our language skills with a lesson in tongue-twisting Welsh pronunciation. Practise your new-found skills at dinner tonight. (B,D)

Day 6 Conwy – Devil's Bridge - Tregaron

Rise and shine, we’ve got a handful of sights to tick off today. Our first stop whisks us away to the home of famous Welsh poet, Hedd Wyn and onwards to the Devil's Bridge – a world famous attraction and home to stunning waterfalls and a steam train experience. Later, enjoy a private tour of the first Welsh book shop and meet the owner. After an exciting day, enjoy dinner in Tregaron together. (B,D)

Day 7 Tregaron - Pembrokeshire

On the cards for today offers a visit to a Welsh gold centre, a visit to the Cenarth Coracle Centre and stop at the majestic Castell Henllys before we land in Pembrokeshire – an elegant country estate. Don your best outfit as we meet one last time for dinner together. (B,D)

Day 8 Pembrokeshire - Kilgetty - Cardiff

We finish our adventure by voyaging along the west coast to meet with the Lovespoon Workshop in Kilgetty. After our visit, there’s time to pick up some final souvenirs before we return to Cardiff and say farewell to the group. (B)

Why Back-Roads Touring

Mini-Coaches

On the vast majority of tours we travel by Mercedes or Mercedes Vito mini-coaches, equipped with comfortable seats, air-conditioning and large windows for enjoying the view. With the flexibility to go anywhere a car can, we take the smaller roads through beautiful scenery and get right to the heart of tiny villages and buzzing cities.
Along the way, your Tour Leader can offer intriguing insights about the views we see over the onboard PA system. And, with long drives kept to a minimum, you’ll have plenty of time to stretch your legs and explore sites for yourself.

Scenic back roads not motorways

Winding country lanes. Coastal beauty spots. Breathtaking mountain passes. With luxury mini-coaches that take us along scenic roads beyond the reach of large vehicles, the journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination.

Authentic Local Experiences

Truly getting to know a destination means stepping off the typical tourist trail. From hidden-gem attractions to local favourites, we take time to seek out genuine experiences that take you to the heart of each spectacular region.

Culinary Discoveries

One of the most enjoyable ways to experience a different culture is to sample the cuisine. From visits to local producers to food and wine tastings and even cooking lessons, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to discover new flavours.

Boutique Hotels

Whether it’s a classic country inn or an elegant chateau, each day’s journey ends in a hotel with plenty of character. We opt for accommodation that reflects the personality of the local area, and fits right in with its surroundings.

Leisurely Paced Travel

Forget sunrise starts and long days hopping on and off the bus. We rarely leave before 8.30am and give each stop the attention it deserves – keeping long drives to a minimum. And giving you plenty of time to explore at your own pace.
