Your Tour Itinerary - Italian Indulgence

Day 1 Rome - Assisi - Perugia

They say all roads lead to Rome, but after we meet, our route whisks us away to awe-inspiring Assisi, the birthplace of St Francis. Tonight, we come together for a delicious dinner in Perugia. (D)

Day 2 Perugia - Siena - Tuscany

Introducing Siena: a gorgeous Gothic city bursting with fabulous architecture. After exploring the old centre, we venture to our villa in the world-renowned Chianti region. (B,D).

Day 3 Tuscany

Our host lets us in on a few secrets of Italian cooking today, as we prepare ourselves a classic rustic Tuscan lunch. The afternoon is free to relax. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Tuscany - Forence – Lucca

We turn our attention to Florence – birthplace of the Renaissance and home to the world’s most treasured masterpieces. A local guide brings the city alive as we stroll through the streets on a walking tour. As afternoon melts into dusk, we continue on to Lucca. (B)

Day 5 Lucca – Pisa - Lucca

We come up close and personal to an Italian icon today, with a visit to the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Afternoon sees us back in Lucca, where you have the rest of the day and night to explore at your own pace. (B)

Day 6 Lucca - Comogli - San Fruttuoso - Portofino - Santa Margherita Ligure

It’s time to experience the glitz and glamour of the Italian Riviera. Have your camera ready as we tick off Camogli, San Fruttuoso and the glittering village of Portofino, before settling in Santa Margherita Ligure. Enjoy an evening at your own pace – strolling along the beachfront, lined with pastelpainted houses. (B)

Day 7 Santa Margherita Ligure - Barolo - Astia - Cherasco

Our compass points north and we travel inland to Piedmont, a region of rich red wines and luxurious cuisine. Our first stop is Grinzane Cavour Castle, before driving near the village of Barolo. A treat is in store for the sweet-toothed among us at a distillery near Asti, where we sip regional liquors, complemented by hand-made nougat. Finally, we will end our busy day with a sumptuous slow-food dinner in Cherasco. (B,D)

Day 8 Cherasco - Lake Orta - Lake Maggiore

This morning we join a truffle hunt with a local farmer, and then it’s time to head for the hills, pristine lakes and soaring mountains of northern Italy. Lake Maggiore marks the magnificent final stop of the day’s journey. (B)

Day 9 Lake Maggiore

Leaving dry land behind us for the day, we set sail for the Borromean Islands. We wander the terraces of the ornate Baroque Garden on Isola Bell and discover the pretty harbour of Isola dei Pescatori. The rest of the day is free for you to relax. (B)

Day 10 Lake Maggiore - Lecco - Tirano

Bidding farewell to Lake Maggiore, we discover the sights of Lecco before we reach Tirano for a wine tasting session. After an indulgent afternoon, we return to our hotel and meet for dinner at a local restaurant to continue the culinary adventure. (B,D

Day 11 Tirano - Lake Molveno - Trento

This morning we turn our attention to the majestic Lake Molveno at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites. We continue to Trento for a walking tour and meet in the evening for a farewell dinner.
(B,D)

Day 12 Trento - Verona - Venice

Fair Verona beckons today, with its impressive Roman ruins and romantic hotspots. Then it’s onwards to the show-stopping finale: the floating city of Venice where we bid farewell. (B)

Why Back-Roads Touring?

Mini-Coaches

On the vast majority of tours we travel by Mercedes or Mercedes Vito mini-coaches, equipped with comfortable seats, air-conditioning and large windows for enjoying the view. With the flexibility to go anywhere a car can, we take the smaller roads through beautiful scenery and get right to the heart of tiny villages and buzzing cities.
Along the way, your Tour Leader can offer intriguing insights about the views we see over the onboard PA system. And, with long drives kept to a minimum, you’ll have plenty of time to stretch your legs and explore sites for yourself.

Scenic back roads not motorways

Winding country lanes. Coastal beauty spots. Breathtaking mountain passes. With luxury mini-coaches that take us along scenic roads beyond the reach of large vehicles, the journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination.

Authentic Local Experiences

Truly getting to know a destination means stepping off the typical tourist trail. From hidden-gem attractions to local favourites, we take time to seek out genuine experiences that take you to the heart of each spectacular region.

Culinary Discoveries

One of the most enjoyable ways to experience a different culture is to sample the cuisine. From visits to local producers to food and wine tastings and even cooking lessons, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to discover new flavours.

Boutique Hotels

Whether it’s a classic country inn or an elegant chateau, each day’s journey ends in a hotel with plenty of character. We opt for accommodation that reflects the personality of the local area, and fits right in with its surroundings.

Leisurely Paced Travel

Forget sunrise starts and long days hopping on and off the bus. We rarely leave before 8.30am and give each stop the attention it deserves – keeping long drives to a minimum. And giving you plenty of time to explore at your own pace.
