Day 1: Paris

Travel to Paris, France’s capital on the River Seine and the ‘City of Light’.

Day 2: Paris

Your included city sightseeing shows you magnificent must-see sights, including Notre Dame Cathedral, the unique Louvre Museum with its glass pyramid as a contrast to its ancient architecture, the commemorative Arc de Triomphe, and the Eiffel Tower. Today, in your free time, stroll down the Champs-Elysées or perhaps visit the world-famous Louvre, Palace of Versailles or
Montmartre, home to the gleaming white Sacre Coeur Basilica and bevy of artists on Place du Tertre. (B)

Day 3: Paris - Remich (embark) - Grevenmacher

Board a high-speed train to Metz or Luxemburg city. Continue by coach to Remich on the Moselle, where your river cruise vessel is docked. Before dinner, meet your crew at a welcome reception,
then cruise to Grevenmacher. (B,D)

Day 4: Grevenmacher

Drive to Luxembourg City, perched in a picturesque setting high on precipitous cliffs that overlook the narrow valleys of the Alzette and Pétrusse Rivers. A local guide will acquaint you with the city, a place of strategic military significance throughout history and where the first fortifications were built as early as the 10th century. Enjoy a tranquil afternoon of cruising, or join an optional excursion to the Roman city of Trier. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Bernkastel

In the middle of the Moselle region is the charming wine village of Bernkastel with its fascinating narrow streets and halftimbered houses that have stood since the Middle Ages. Enjoy a guided walk that includes the beautiful marketplace with its renaissance-style Town Hall. Wine producers in this area look after Germany’s largest expanse of vineyards. This afternoon, enjoy a tasting of some of these well-loved German wines. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Cochem

Cruise the wide, peaceful curves of the Moselle Valley, famous for its beautiful and tranquil scenery, and an important winemaking area. Arrive in Cochem, a charming, picturesque town with half-timbered houses and winding streets full of history, brought to life during your guided walk. Visit Reichsburg Castle, built in 1000 AD. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Rüdesheim - Rhine Gorge

In Rüdesheim, visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum. This afternoon, sail through the Rhine Gorge, the most dramatic and beautiful stretch of the river. Here, ancient castles stand sentry on lofty cliffs rising 400 feet above the waters. Cruise past the legendary rock of the Lorelei. (B,L,D)

Day 8: Cologne

One of Germany’s largest cities and capital of the Rhineland, Cologne straddles both sides of the Rhine, and is known for its soaring, twin-steepled Gothic cathedral. The Old Town abounds with cafés, shops, and taverns. Choose between a guided city walk or Jewish Heritage walk. Be sure to try a Kölsch pale lager, locally brewed in Cologne for over a hundred years. (B,L,D)

DAY 9: Amsterdam

There is no better way to see Amsterdam than by canal boat, cruising along elegant grachten, lined by stately homes that date back to Amsterdam’s ‘Golden Age’. There’s free time in the city this afternoon. (B,L,D)

DAY 10: Amsterdam (disembark)

With a driver to load and unload your luggage, a private, air-conditioned car will take you to and from your international departure point. This service is available within 100 miles of your home at no extra cost.

Fly from your local airport - Avalon are delighted to work with some of the world’s favourite airlines with flights from a range of regional airports to make your journey even easier. Call Avalon for details.

No-fly holidays - Avalon know that flying isn’t for everyone. That’s why they have a wide range of cruises that give you the option of travelling by rail. Depart from London’s St Pancras International station, or Ebbsfleet if available, and you could be in Paris in just over two hours.

Tailor your travel - On an Avalon river cruise, you have the freedom to tailor your holiday as you wish:

Pre and post holiday hotel stays - why not extend your holiday with extra hotel nights before and/or at the end of your holiday? Avalon work with renowned names in the hotel business, such as Hilton and InterContinental.

Too many hotel nights? - some of their holidays include hotel stays. If that doesn’t suit you, they can just book the cruise portion for you.

Make your own way - the brochure prices include flights, but you don’t have to take their package. Avalon give you the option to book the holiday without the flights.

Under your own arrangements - if you’d like to explore at your own pace after your holiday with Avalon, they’ll happily extend your flights for you.
Note: Eurostar travel from St Pancras or Ebbsfleet is available on the following river cruises: Paris to Normandy, Burgundy & Provence, Tulips of Northern Holland, Tulip Time, Grand France, Paris, Moselle & The Rhine.
