Holiday Itinerary Scenic Slovenia and Lake Bled

Day 1 UK - Ljubljana

Today you will fly to Ljubljana. On arrival, we will transfer to your hotel in the lakeside town of Bled, our base for the next seven nights. This evening, you will meet your fellow travellers over a welcome drink and dinner. D

Day 2 Bled

Located in the foothills of the Julian Mountains, Bled is a picturesque town that attracts visitors with its extraordinary beauty and historical monuments. Today, we’ll explore our surroundings on a sightseeing tour of the town and its castle. Built in the early 11th century, Bled castle is the oldest in Slovenia and sits on a precipice offering incredible views across the lake. During the tour, you’ll also take a traditional pletna (a gondola like boat) across to Bled Island. This is perhaps one of the most iconic sights of the region where the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary proudly stands, shrouded by the legend of the Wishing Bell. B, D

Day 3 Lake Bled

Today is free to explore the local area at your own pace or enjoy the facilities at the hotel. There is also the opportunity to join your Holiday Director on an optional excursion to the Postojna Caves and Predjama Castle. An underground electric train will take you deep into the Postojna Caves, from here, you’ll enjoy a guided walk through some of the most beautiful caves decorated by a magnificent display of stalagmites and stalactites that have been created over millions of years. The walk will take you past Brilliant, the most famous stalagmite, and through the Spaghetti, Red and White Halls before arriving at the Concert Hall, named for its exceptional acoustics. Following the tour of the caves, you’ll visit one of the most extraordinary Gothic castles in Slovenia. Embedded into the rock, Predjama Castle is a stunning example of how man-made structures can intertwine with natural beauty. While here, learn about the legend of Erazem of Predjama, a rebellious knight, and the history and highlights of the castle. B,D

Day 4 Julian Alps

Today you’ll head to the Julian Alps to enjoy a full day of spectacular and unspoiled natural scenery. The journey takes us through the Upper Sava Valley to Kranjska Gora and over the Vršic mountain pass. This famous route drives through thick forests, mountain meadows and navigates 50 hairpin bends - each offering breath-taking views. We’ll stop at the very top to admire the splendid panorama of the impressive Julian Alps. Later we’ll descend into the Trenta Valley, driving alongside the emerald-green Soca river, the scene of fierce battles during WW. We’ll make several short stops before arriving in the pretty town of Bovec for some free time for lunch. We’ll continue our journey towards the Predil pass, which connects Italy and Slovenia, passing several historical monuments and natural wonders. B,D

Day 5 Lake Bled at leisure

We have left today free for you to relax and explore at leisure. Why not enjoy a slow breakfast and perhaps make your own discoveries in the town or take some time to unwind in the picturesque surroundings. B, D

Day 6 Ljubljana

Today we’ll make our way to Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana for a guided tour. The city is one of the smallest capitals in Europe but offers a blend of old-world charm and an exciting mix of culture. Watched over but a medieval castle, the Old Town blends Baroque, Art Nouveau and Renaissance buildings – as a pedestrian friendly city, it’s easy to explore the narrow cobbled streets or take a stroll along the Ljubljanica River. B,D

Day 7 Bled at leisure

Enjoy a day at leisure to take in the majestic surroundings, alternatively join us on a morning excursion to the Vintgar Gorge. Discovered in the late 19th century, the Vintgar George is home to some of the most serene landscapes and natural beauty in Slovenia. Wooden boardwalks blend into the rock face as they criss-cross along the crystal-clear Radovna River and, along the 1.6km path provide views of mesmerising waterfalls and lush greenery. This evening, we will gather for our farewell dinner at a local restaurant which includes a folklore performance by local dancers. B,D
