Day 1 - UK/Lille
Depart on your journey to Lille by Eurostar from London St Pancras International or Ebbsfleet International* in the company of your Tour Manager. On arrival, check into your hotel, which is located close to the heart of the city. Dinner is included at your hotel this evening.
Day 2 - Lille
The French city of Lille boasts some spectacular architecture, much of it Flemish, from the days of Belgian rule. Situated on the Deûle River, it is known for its magnificent city centre and vibrant culture. As you explore at your own pace, be sure to head to Vieux Lille, the historic quarter. Maybe join the locals, who like nothing more than sitting around the fountain in the main square, or spend time wandering around its cobbled streets, which are lined with shops, open-air bars and restaurants.
Alternatively, why not join our optional three-quarter day excursion to Ghent, one of Belgium’s oldest cities, which sits on the junction of the Leie and Scheldt Rivers. A tour of the city will reward you with marvellous views of elegant medieval architecture, including the imposing Het Gravensteen castle, a network of canals and quaint cobbled streets.
This evening enjoy the relaxed pace back in Lille. In the centre of the town you’ll find a fantastic selection of restaurants serving regional, national and international cuisine and there are also many bars serving locally-brewed beers. You might choose to join our optional visit to the Menin Gate at Ypres, the British and Commonweatlh memorial to the soldiers that lost their lives in the First World War and were never found. Here you will witness the poignant Last Post Ceremony, which has been performed at the gate each evening since 1929.
Day 3 - Bruges
Today we include an excursion to Bruges, the capital city of West Flanders. Sometimes referred to as ‘The Venice of the North’, its delightful old centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts many attractions, from traditional gabled houses and majestic churches to charming canals and picturesque market squares. If you want to pick up a souvenir of your holiday why not shop for lace - Bruges is famous for its production. And of course delicious Belgian chocolates can be found at every turn, why not call into a chocolatier and pick up a treat.
Atmospheric bars line Bruges’ streets - perhaps visit one of the cosy tap-rooms and sample a famous Belgian beer or two. If you’re feeling hungry, chips and mayonnaise is a great local speciality.
Day 4 - Lille to UK
Enjoy a relaxing morning with time to explore Lille further at your own pace before taking the Eurostar service back to the UK.
Please note: we want you to get the most from your holiday with us so please be advised that this tour is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.
