Your Tour Itinerary - Explore Eastern Europe

Day 1 Budapest

With so much to see, there is no time to waste. We will make tracks on a guided city tour of Budapest. Then, the afternoon is all yours to discover the historical capital before we meet for our first meal together. (D)

Day 2 Budapest - Holloko - Banska Bystrica

Leaving Budapest behind us, we make way to Holloko, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we meet with locals and enjoy a performance by the Holloko Women's Choir dressed in their traditional regional garments, accompanied by an authentic lunch. Later, we reach Banska Bystrica where the evening is of your own entertainment. (B,L)

Day 3 Banska Bystrica - Wieliczka - Krakow

Waving farewell to Banska Bystrica, our road carries us to visit the Wieliczka Salt Mines – one of the oldest in the world – before we reach Krakow. Dating back to the 13th century, this historic mine also houses enchanting chandelier-lit chambers and chapels, all carved from salt. Its perfectly preserved centre harks back to its medieval glory day and is sure to impress. (B)

Day 4 Krakow

Today we give Krakow our full attention. Making the most of our time in this historic city, we meet in the morning for a guided city tour, visiting the essential sights including the Wawel Royal Castle and Cathedral. Then, the rest of the day is yours to explore. Tonight, you will be treated to a pierogi-making class, where we learn how to cook these classic Polish dumplings. (B,D)

Day 5 Krakow - Auschwitz - Olomouc

We pay a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp today, a sobering reminder of atrocities committed by the Nazis. Later, we reach Olomouc where we spend the night. (B)

Day 6 Olomouc - Litomysl - Golcuv Jenikov

This morning, we make time for an exploration of Olomouc, before moving on to the town of Litomyšl to visit one of the biggest Renaissance castles in the Czech Republic. Next up, we drive to the grand Chateau Hostačov in Golčův Jeníkov. Here, we enjoy a wine tasting session and delicious dinner. (B,D)

Day 7 Golcuv Jenikov

This morning you’re free to enjoy the surrounds of the chateau or take a walk to the nearby village. On the cards for tonight’s entertainment includes an evening of traditional Baroque style dancing accompanied by a 6-piece orchestra and dinner. (B,D)

Day 8 Golcuv Jenikov - Prague

With cathedral spires, cobbled streets and timeless market squares, Prague captivates from the moment you see it. After a guided tour of the majestic city to get your bearings, enjoy free time before we sit down for a farewell dinner with beer tasting. (B,D)

Day 9 Prague - Karlstejn - Prague

Our final day takes us to the countryside town, Karlštejn to explore one of the most beautiful castles. After a short drive back to Prague, our journey ends in the afternoon. (B)

Why Back-Roads Touring

On the vast majority of tours we travel by Mercedes or Mercedes Vito mini-coaches, equipped with comfortable seats, air-conditioning and large windows for enjoying the view. With the flexibility to go anywhere a car can, we take the smaller roads through beautiful scenery and get right to the heart of tiny villages and buzzing cities.
Along the way, your Tour Leader can offer intriguing insights about the views we see over the onboard PA system. And, with long drives kept to a minimum, you’ll have plenty of time to stretch your legs and explore sites for yourself.

Scenic back roads not motorways

Winding country lanes. Coastal beauty spots. Breathtaking mountain passes. With luxury mini-coaches that take us along scenic roads beyond the reach of large vehicles, the journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination.

Authentic Local Experiences

Truly getting to know a destination means stepping off the typical tourist trail. From hidden-gem attractions to local favourites, we take time to seek out genuine experiences that take you to the heart of each spectacular region.

Culinary Discoveries

One of the most enjoyable ways to experience a different culture is to sample the cuisine. From visits to local producers to food and wine tastings and even cooking lessons, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to discover new flavours.

Boutique Hotels

Whether it’s a classic country inn or an elegant chateau, each day’s journey ends in a hotel with plenty of character. We opt for accommodation that reflects the personality of the local area, and fits right in with its surroundings.

Leisurely Paced Travel

Forget sunrise starts and long days hopping on and off the bus. We rarely leave before 8.30am and give each stop the attention it deserves – keeping long drives to a minimum. And giving you plenty of time to explore at your own pace.
