Holiday Itinerary - The Rocky Mountaineer
Day 1: UK to Calgary
Fly to Calgary and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Calgary - Banff National Park
The discovery of oil converted this cattle ranching town into a thriving, sophisticated city. On this morning’s tour, see many of its attractions including the Saddledome, Fort Calgary and Stampede Park. Later, drive to Banff National Park and the mountain resort of Banff, gateway to the majestic Canadian Rockies.
Day 3: Banff National Park
The day is yours to enjoy the many pleasures of Banff. Perhaps join an optional helicopter ride high over the Canadian Rockies?
Day 4: Banff National Park - Lake Louise - Jasper National Park
Travel to Lake Louise, its azure-blue waters a perfect natural mirror, refl ecting the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Head through two mountain passes en route to the Columbia Icefi eld, where you’ll enjoy an Ice Explorer ride over the 1,200ft thick Athabasca Glacier. End the day with an orientation tour to explore the unspoilt beauty of Jasper.
Day 5: Jasper National Park
Why not join an optional trip to Maligne Lake and Spirit Island, where you can enjoy a narrated cruise?
Day 6: Jasper National Park - Rocky Mountaineer Train - Kamloops
Board the famous Rocky Mountaineer for a two-day, all daylight, classic rail journey from the Canadian Rockies to the Pacifi c Coast. The train follows the route of the ‘Overlanders’, 19th century homesteaders who attempted to settle this rugged region. Pass Mount Robson, at 12,972ft
it is the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, follow the Thompson river and admire vistas of the Monashee Mountains. Overnight in Kamloops, a major cattle ranching centre. (B,L)
Day 7: Kamloops - Rocky Mountaineeer Train - Vancouver
Re-board the Rocky Mountaineer and continue on an amazing journey through vast ranchlands alongside the South Thompson river. See the stark beauty of the Fraser Canyon and the raging turbulence of Hell’s Gate - where the river funnels into a gap just 100ft wide. Admire the Fraser Valley, surrounded by the snow-capped Coast Mountains before arriving in Vancouver. (B,L)
Day 8: Vancouver - Victoria
Take in Vancouver’s beautiful beaches and harbour, Chinatown, Gastown and lovely Stanley Park
on a sightseeing tour. Afterwards, catch a ferry across the Strait of Georgia through the spectacular Gulf Islands to Victoria. Visit Butchart Gardens and Thunderbird Park with its unusual collection of totem poles.
Day 9: Victoria - Vancouver - UK
Journey back to Vancouver and transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK.
Day 10: Flight lands in the UK
