Eastbourne and Brighton - Excursions

Lewis and Bexhill-on-Sea

The historic market town of Lewes is flanked by the chalky South Downs, dominated by an imposing Norman castle and has an abundance of antique shops. After a look around we move on to sleepy Bexhill-on-Sea, a seaside resort with beachfront cafés, a gently sloping beach and a wide promenade.

Brighton

Brighton is an exhilarating and cosmopolitan coastal city with a broad shingle beach flanked by grand Regency townhouses while the pretty marina features luxury yachts and a stylish shopping boulevard. Don’t miss the legendary pier with its fairground rides, amusements and deckchairs – a lovely place to sip a cuppa while taking in views of the English Channel.  Well worth a visit is the resort’s landmark Royal Pavilion - the lavish seaside palace of George IV housing fine furniture and works of art. Within the palace grounds you’ll find a splendid art gallery and museum with exhibitions of paintings and fashion.

Bluebell Railway

This fun attraction boasts one of the country’s finest collections of vintage steam locomotives and carriages, recreating train travel from the 1880s. The railway is popular with film and television productions and its Horsted Keynes has appeared in drama such as Downton Abbey and Churchill’s Secrets. Here we board our steam train for a nostalgic journey as we step back in time, puffing and rumbling along the Sussex heritage line between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead.
