Holiday Itinerary
Day 1 - Flight to Vienna
We fly to Vienna airport and transfer to our hotel in Altlengbach where we enjoy dinner together this evening.
Day 2 - Guided city tour of Vienna and Vienna Christmas Markets
Exploring Vienna at this time of year is truly magical, and we begin discovering the highlights with a guided city tour. Straddling the banks of the Danube, Vienna is an undisputed centre of art and culture in Europe and is famous for its grand buildings and squares, museums, opera houses and theatres. Principal sights include the Hofburg Palace and the Museum Quarter.
We then have free time to explore the wonderful Christmas Markets, held in numerous picturesque locations across the city including against the backdrop of the Schönbrunn Palace, the Belvedere Palace and the City Hall. Stallholders offer traditional handcrafted goods, elaborate Christmas decorations and special culinary delights from their festively decorated market stalls. Tonight we have dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 - Mariazell Christmas Market
We visit Mariazell, an incredibly picturesque town located in the Salza Valley. The town’s stunning basilica, set against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains provides a wonderful setting for the Christmas Market.
With regional delicacies, traditional Austrian customs, and the smell of mulled wine and gingerbread, Mariazell is bursting with festivity. Later after returning to the hotel, we enjoy dinner together.
Day 4 - Steyr Valley Railway, Christkindl Village and Steyr Christmas Market
We head to the pretty town of Grünburg, where we board the train on the Steyr Valley Railway. Enjoy travelling through the scenic rural landscape, dotted with traditional Austrian chalets and ancient churches on our way to Steyr. From here, our coach takes us to Christkindl, a tiny village full of charm and festive ambience. Here we can visit the lovely little church and the quaint post office, where visitors can purchase Christkindl’s famous stamp, the only one of its kind in the world, and one of the most popular items among Christmas collectors. After, we travel back to Steyr to enjoy the enchanting Christmas Market at leisure. Watch the talented craftsmen at work, enjoy Austrian culinary delights at the refreshment stands, or admire the nativity scene in the historic Stadplatz square. Back at the hotel, we enjoy dinner together.
Day 5 - Flight home
We check out of the hotel and transfer to Vienna airport for our return flight home.
