Holiday Itinerary -Scottish Highland Explorer

Day 1: Arrive in Inverness.

Check into your hotel with the rest of the day free to relax in the Highland capital. At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel. Meals included: Dinner

Day 2: Inverness. Culloden and Cawdor Castle.

Fascinating visits on today’s excursion. Stop first at Clava Cairns, featured in the "Outlander" series and one of Scotland’s most sacred prehistoric sites. See its three exceptionally well-preserved burial cairns, each enclosed by stone circles. At Culloden Visitor Centre, the story unfolds of the crushing Hanoverian victory over Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Scottish clans. Then, visit Cawdor Castle, forever associated with Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the ancestral home of the Campbells of Cawdor. Admire beautiful antique furniture and fine portraits by famous painters such as Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir Thomas Lawrence in a 600-year-old collection of intriguing artifacts and ornate tapestries. Back in Inverness, the rest of the day is at leisure. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 3: Inverness. Isle of Skye and Glenfinnan

See heather-clad moors as you drive through the western Highlands to Lochalsh and the Inner Hebridean Isle of Skye. The route back to the mainland is by ferry across the Sound of Sleat to Mallaig. Pause at Glenfinnan to see the monument to fallen Jacobite clansmen and the famous viaduct well known to Harry Potter fans before reaching Fort William beneath Ben Nevis. On return to Inverness through the Great Glen, look out for signs of the mysterious Loch Ness Monster. Meals included: Breakfast

Day 4: Inverness

A full day to relax and explore the capital of the Highlands today. Crowned by a pink crenellated castle and lavishly decorated with flowers, this cathedral city on the banks of the River Ness has a rich variety of places to visit including the historic Victorian Market, an excellent museum and art gallery, and some attractive riverside walks. Day 5: Inverness. West Coast Excursion.

More spectacular Scottish scenery: Dornoch Firth, the Kyle of Sutherland, the Falls of Shin, the Mountains of Assynt, and Knockan Crag. Then, follow Strath Oykel for a visit to Ullapool, a remote fishing harbour on Loch Broom, before returning along Loch Glascarnoch. For your final treat, discover the secrets behind Scotland’s national drink during a guided tour of a whisky distillery. Enjoy a farewell dinner at your hotel. Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 6: Inverness. 

Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning.
