From local joining points we make our way to our overnight stop.
We take the early morning ferry from Holyhead to Dublin before making our way to Roscommon and the Abbey Hotel for five nights.
A day at leisure to discover the local delights of this friendly market town.
Today we head to the famous city of Galway, a wonderful mix of colour, culture and character, of twisting lanes a uniquely shaped cathedral and impressive Spanish arch, all captivating the charm of Ireland.
This morning we visit Strokestown Park House and the National Famine Museum. Strokestown was home to the first landlord to be assassinated during the height of the Great Famine of Ireland in 1847. Today the house is a time capsule, unchanged from 19th century and the museum narrates one of the most destructive episodes in Ireland’s history. We continue to the riverside town of Carrickon-Shannon, steeped in history at the gateway to Ireland’s Lakelands.
This morning we take the Irish rail network and head to the pretty resort of Westport on the wild Atlantic coast. From here we re-join our coach and skirt Killary Harbour – Ireland’s only fjord – and the grounds of Kylemore Abbey as we pass through the remote, yet wonderful
Connemara National Park.
This morning we leave Roscommon and make our way into Dublin for some free time before we board the afternoon ferry to Holyhead and onward to our overnight hotel.
Our tour comes to a close as we return home.
