Day 1 - Fly to Italy
Our holiday begins with the flight to Milan from your chosen UK airport. On arrival it’s just a short transfer to our hotel at Lake Como, where we stay for the next four nights.
Day 2 - Lake Como
From Roman Emperors to today’s Hollywood film stars, Lake Como has always been one of Italy’s most popular destinations. Lying between the Alps and Lombardy, Lake Como’s scenery is magnificent and full of contrasts. This morning, we have an included excursion to one of Lake Como’s most famous villas, the Villa Carlotta. We have also included a boat trip across the lake to Bellagio, said to be the prettiest village in the whole of Italy. The village is a jumble of cobbled lanes and steep streets lined with stylish boutiques, wine bars and craft shops selling locally produced handicrafts.
Day 3 - Lake Maggiore
Today we have an included excursion to Lake Maggiore and the delightful resort of Stresa, from where we take a private launch to the Borromean Islands. Lake Maggiore has much to offer visitors, but for many the Borromean Islands are the Lake’s biggest attraction. This cluster of small islands, in Pallanza Bay, are
famous throughout the world. The most beautiful is the enchanting Isola Bella which, during the 17th Century, was transformed into a fabulous “garden isle” with a magnificent palace and terraced gardens leading down to the shore. Our second visit is to the Isola dei Pescatori which is a bustling fishing community, with a picturesque jumble of fishermens cottages. After our visits we’ll sail back to Stresa where we will have time at leisure before making our way back to Lake Como.
Day 4 - Switzerland and Lake Lugano
Today’s excursion takes us across the nearby border into Switzerland and the charming Swiss resort of
Lugano. There is free time to explore and you could take the funicular railway to the top of Monte Bre for some breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps.
Day 5 - Lake Como - Lake Garda
This morning after breakfast we leave Lake Como behind and travel across the fertile Lombardy Plain towards Lake Garda and Sirmione, a charming lakeside town renowned for its thermal baths and the ancient Scagligera castle. There will be time here for a stroll around the cobblestone streets and to enjoy a drink in one of the many pavement cafes before continuing on to our hotel further along the lake, where we stay for three nights.
Day 6 - Lake Garda
A full day to enjoy Italy’s largest lake, which is some 30 miles long and 10 miles across at its widest point.
We have included an excursion by coach to explore the contrasting scenery around the lake, from the
sunny plains of the southern shores to the spectacular mountainous region to the north. We’ll visit lakeside
Malcesine, said to be one of the finest towns on the lake, and there will also be an opportunity to take an
optional steamer trip on the lake.
Day 7 - Verona
Today we visit the romantic city of Verona – one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. Made famous by
Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, life in Verona centres around the ‘Old Town’, with its magnificent Roman Arena and the Via Mazzini lined with colourful shops and department stores. You also won’t want to miss ‘Juliet’s Balcony’ and you will be able to enjoy some time at leisure too.
Day 8 - Homeward Bound
It’s ’Arriverderci Italia today when we return to the airport for our flight back to the UK. If your flight is in the morning or over the lunchtime period, we will take you to the airport after breakfast. If your flight is in the late afternoon or evening, there will be time at leisure before leaving for the airport.
