Day 1: San Jose, Costa Rica - Tour Begins
Journey to Costa Rica and discover the fascinating tropical ecosystems of Tortuguero National Park, Arenal Volcano and Manuel Antonio National Park. Embark on many exclusive explorations of the country’s natural gems. Take time for independent personal discovery.
Day 2: San Jose - Tortuguero National Park
Journey to the rainforest of Tortuguero National Park and take in the mountain views. Later, cruise the rivers with an expert guide and visit the world’s first green turtle research station. Enjoy a 2 night stay at an eco-lodge and find yourself surrounded by lush tropical forest and an array of wildlife.
Day 3: Tortuguero National Park
Set out on an early morning bird watching excursion* that explores the variety of local species and migratory birds that flock to this area. Find yourself surrounded by wildlife as you embark on a cruise through the park – keep an eye out for howler monkeys, sloths, toucans and caimans, as well as exotic flora. Tortuguero National Park, a study in rainforest, freshwater and marine biology, protects over 350 species of birds and mammals. Savour time to explore and seek out green macaws; 57 species of amphibians; 111 species of reptiles; and 60 mammal species, including 13 of Costa Rica’s endangered animals including jaguars, tapirs, ocelots, cougars, iver otters and manatees.
Day 4: Tortuguero National Park - Sarapiquí
Take to the water again and embark on a leisurely boat ride to the mainland as you travel to the Sarapiquí region. Visit an organic pineapple plantation before travelling to your eco-lodge nestled in the rainforest and surrounded by towering Almendro trees, howler monkeys and keel billed toucans. Enjoy free time to hike through the deep green forest or simply relax in a hammock and take in the nature around you.
Day 5: Sarapiquí
Today you’ll visit a cacao plantation and discover the process of producing chocolate from the cacao bean and sample the delicious finished product. Afterwards, see the region from a different perspective on an exhilarating Sarapiquí River rafting adventure. This evening, enjoy a traditional Costa Rican dinner at your rainforest lodge
Day 6: Sarapiquí - Arenal Volcano
Start your day with an early morning bird watching tour along the natural forest trails and nearby stream. Later, enjoy spectacular views of Arenal Volcano as you begin a 3 night stay at your resort featuring panoramic views of the volcano.
Day 7: Arenal Volcano
This morning, experience the rainforest from the treetops on a guided walking tour along Arenal’s hanging bridges. Then, the choice is yours! Choose between a thrilling zip lining experience and take in one-of-a-kind views of the Arenal rainforest. Or, enjoy a moderate hike along the trails of Arenal Volcano National Park; cross lava fields and pause to enjoy spectacular views of the volcano.
Day 8: Arenal Volcano
Today is at leisure. You may take an optional river safari down the Peñas Blancas River. For the more adventurous, an exhilarating white water rafting expedition on the San Blas River is also available. Or, you can simply explore the resort or relax in the soothing waters of one of the region’s hot springs. This evening, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on cooking demonstration before tasting the local flavours of Costa Rica during a traditional dinner.
Day 9: Arenal Volcano - Tarcoles - Manuel Antonio National Park
Today you’ll travel to the Pacific Coast. Along the way, stop for a jungle crocodile safari and bird watching excursion. Hop aboard a safari boat to explore the remarkable mangrove ecosystem of the Rio Grande of Tarcoles. Later, continue to the world-renowned Manuel Antonio National Park to check into your resort just outside the park. Soak up the sweeping views and take in the sunset overlooking the park and the Pacific Ocean before dining this evening.
Day 10: Manuel Antonio National Park
Today is yours to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty. You can enjoy the luxurious amenities of your resort, walk the nearby nature trails that lead to dramatic views of the Pacific, or perhaps head to the nearby white sand beaches.
Day 11: Manuel Antonio National Park - San Jose
This morning explore the spectacular Manuel Antonio National Park, known for its pristine beaches and primary forest. Spend time walking the forest trails in search of the three-toed sloth, agoutis, squirrel monkeys and iguanas; or take a swim in the inviting blue waters. Later, say goodbye to the coast and continue to San Jose.
Day 12: San Jose
