Cadbury World heritage tour and afternoon tea
We enjoy a fascinating coach tour of Bourneville Village in the company of a member of the Cadbury World Heritage team hearing all about the Cadbury brothers’ vision of a ‘Factory in a Garden’ and feasting our eyes on stunning architecture. Afterwards, our tour moves on to the Cadbury World Exhibition where we enjoy special effects cinema presentations, watch the chocolateers to see how popular sweets are made and learn how Bourneville was created. Our visit concludes with a delicious afternoon tea with sandwiches and scones then a chance to browse the gift shop.
Lichfield and Tamworth
Tuesday is market day in the cathedral city of Lichfield so we head to the historic main square where trading has taken place since 1153. The square is overlooked by the house that was the birthplace of Dr Samuel Johnson – who penned the first English dictionary. Perhaps make time to visit the magnificent triple-spired cathedral or the heritage museum. We move on to Tamworth where you might like to visit the round castle for a journey through nine hundred years of history
The scenic settlement of Leek rests on a hill in a bend in the River Churnet on the southern edge of the Peak District. We visit on Wednesday to enjoy the bustle and atmosphere of the village’s traditional markets. The Buttermarket is housed in a delightfully restored Victorian building, Trestle Market features table top stalls offering a wide variety of goods whilst the award winning Charter Market attracts visitors from afar with garden products, music and cosmetics.
