Day 1: Boston, Massachusetts - Tour Begins
Welcome to Massachusetts where we begin our journey through the best of New England on a tour that showcases four historic hotels. Your tour opens in historic Boston where you’ll enjoy a 2-night stay. This evening, meet your fellow travellers at a welcome reception.
Day 2: Boston
Today, it’s your choice! Walk the Freedom Trail with a local guide and follow in the footsteps of those who shaped America during the Revolutionary War -OR- board a coach with your local guide to see Boston’s iconic treasures including the Old South Meeting House, the Public Gardens, Old North Church and Beacon Hill. Either way you will stop at the famed Faneuil Hall Marketplace, bustling with various street performers and colourful stalls of local handiwork. Tonight, enjoy dinner at a favourite local restaurant. Day 3: Boston - Stockbridge - Manchester, Vermont
En route to Vermont, stop in Stockbridge to visit the Norman Rockwell Museum which houses the world’s largest collection of Rockwell’s work. Continue into the “Green Mountain State” of Vermont, where traditional white steeple churches, quaint villages and unspoiled tree-covered mountainsides dot the landscape. In the bucolic town of Manchester, arrive at the tranquil Equinox Resort & Spa. An icon of New England history since it first opened as the Marsh Tavern in 1769, The Equinox has hosted everyone from the Revolutionary “Green Mountain Boys” to presidents. The Equinox is the perfect place to soak in the pristine landscapes of Vermont during a relaxing 2-night stay. (B, D)
Day 4: Manchester
Today we visit elegant Hildene, the Lincoln Family Home. The former home of Robert Todd Lincoln, the only adult child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln and former Chairman of the Pullman Company, this impressive home - set on 412 acres – offers visitors a wealth of experiences. Explore the impressive 22-room mansion, magnificent gardens, and the vintage Pullman car. Perhaps you’ll linger to walk the trails or visit the estate’s farm before returning to your resort to enjoy its amenities. You may choose to enjoy an optional locally-guided tour of ermont’s backroads, including stops at a maple sugar shack and the historic town of Bennington. (B)
Day 5: Manchester - Woodstock - Bretton Woods, New Hampshire
Travel through the beautiful Green Mountains, stopping in the quintessential New England village of Woodstock, complete with covered bridges, a town green, and beautifully restored Georgian homes. Then, cross the border into the Granite State of New Hampshire. Marvel at the sheer beauty of the White Mountains on your way to the iconic Omni Mount Washington Resort. The imposing Mount Washington serves as the scenic backdrop to this storied resort, a favourite New England retreat of presidents, poets and celebrities since 1902. Tonight it’s Diner’s Choice - choose from any of the resort’s fine restaurants! (B, D)
Day 6: Bretton Woods
The day is yours to experience this spectacular resort your way. Join an included tour of the resort to hear about historical events that took place here. Ride the scenic chairlift at Bretton Woods for mountain views. Or, if active pursuits are of interest, the resort offers an array of optional outdoor activities including golf, tennis and hiking. If you’re in the mood to be pampered, the resort boasts a 25,000 square foot spa that offers signature treatment options. Afterwards, spend some time in the heated pool and cabana complex surrounded by the White Mountains. (B)
Day 7: Bretton Woods - Portland Head Light, Maine - Kennebunkport
Depart New Hampshire and travel southeast to Maine’s seacoast. Stop in Portland, once home to sea captains and now known as one of “America’s coolest cities.” A locally-guided tour includes Fort Williams Park, where you’ll view the Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in America and the oldest in Maine. As you take in the views of Portland Harbour and Casco Bay, four more lighthouses can be seen. Later, arrive in Kennebunkport, a seaside resort town where historic mansions and summer cottages line Summer Street and Ocean Avenue. Enjoy some time in Dock Square before checking into your hotel for the evening. Tonight’s farewell dinner includes fresh Maine lobster. (B, D)
