Your Tour Itinerary - Temples of Thailand and Cambodia

Day 1 Bangkok, Thailand

Our journey begins in Bangkok. Meet with your fellow travellers and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2 Bangkok

After breakfast, enjoy a morning at your leisure. This afternoon, we’ll hop aboard a long-tailed boat for a leisurely trip down the city’s klongs (canals). A Thai puppet show awaits at Khlong Bang Luang Artist Village before we continue our scenic ride down the Chao Phraya River. On our way, we’ll stop to visit the magnificent temple of Wat Arun. After a day of sightseeing, it’s time for a street eats tour with a twist – travelling in a tuk-tuk. (B,L)

Day 3 Bangkok - Siem Reap, Cambodia

Today we’ll leave Bangkok behind us as we board a plane and continue our temple-exploring journey to Siem Reap in Cambodia. (B,D)

Day 4 Siem Reap

Prepare for your first adventure to the aweinspiring Angkor Complex. We begin by visiting Angkor Wat with one of the region’s leading stone conservation experts, who’ll reveal how the site’s incredible structures were designed and carved. Then we’ll proceed to the Ta Prohm Temple before boarding a gondola and heading off on a sunset cruise along the moat of Angkor Thom, refreshing beverage in hand. (B,L,D)

Day 5 Siem Reap

This morning, we continue our temple tour with explorations of Banteay Srey and Banteay Samré before visiting the peaceful Ta Som, Neak Pean and Preah Khan temples this afternoon. Later, we’ll settle down for an evening under the big top at Phare, the Cambodian Circus. Expect tight-rope walking, juggling, contortion, music and theatre in one energetic showcase of Cambodian culture. (B,L)

Day 6 Siem Reap

Today we drive to the edge of the Tonle Sap Lake and embark on a cruise to Kampong Phluk, an isolated Khmer community built on wooden stilts. Our boat will take us through a mangrove forest, a unique ecosystem home to many different wildlife and bird species. After the boat trip, we continue to a small village called Chansar where we hop aboard an ox cart for a fun ride through the fields to the home of a Khmer family who specialise in making brooms from natural materials. After receiving a blessing from the monks, we’ll return to Siem Reap for the evening. (B,L)

Day 7 Siem Reap - Bangkok, Thailand

It’s back to Thailand again today as we board our flight back to Bangkok. This evening, there’s a real treat in store – tonight’s farewell dinner cruise. (B,D)

Day 8 Bangkok

There’s one final breakfast to enjoy before our tour ends with a transfer back to the airport. (B)

Why Back-Roads Touring?

Travelling style

A Back-Roads tour promises a more leisurely style that gives you the freedom of travelling in your own vehicle and as a small group – but without the hassle.

In Asia, we travel by premium mini-coach – offering comfortable seats, air conditioning and large windows for enjoying the view. Along the way, your tour leader can offer intriguing insights about the places we see as we travel through each country. And, with long drives kept to a minimum, you’ll have plenty of time to stretch your legs and explore the sites for yourself.

When we’re not travelling by mini-coach through beautiful scenery and charming villages, we’re getting around like the locals in tuk-tuks, cyclos, oxcarts and paddle steamers.

Leisurely paced itineraries

Forget sunrise starts and long days hopping on and off a bus. We give each stop the attention it deserves and keep long drives to a minimum, giving you plenty of time to explore at your own pace.

Scenic back road avoiding motorways

Picturesque winding streets. Coastal beauty spots. Breathtaking mountain passes. With comfortable transport that takes us along scenic roads beyond the reach of large vehicles, the journey is as much a part of the adventure as the destination.

Culinary Discoveries

One of the most enjoyable ways to experience a different culture is to sample the cuisine. From visits to local producers to food and wine tastings and even cooking lessons, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to discover new flavours.

Hand-picked boutique accommodation

Whether it’s an eco resort or charming hotel, each day’s journey ends in a boutique property with plenty of character. We opt for accommodation that reflects the personality of the local area, and fits right in with its surroundings.

Authentic local experiences

Truly getting to know a destination means stepping off the typical tourist trail. From hidden-gem attractions to local favourites, we take time to seek out authentic experiences that take you to the heart of each spectacular region.

Small groups up to 14

With tour sizes of up to 14 guests, our tour leaders can ensure a more personalised experience. Smaller group sizes also mean we can guarantee our tours will run once we have just four guests booked
