Holiday Itinerary Christmas in Edinburgh
Day 1 Edinburgh
Make your own way to Edinburgh today, your hotel is located in a tranquil area, about a 20-minute drive from the city centre. On arrival, you will be welcomed with a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie as you check in. This evening, enjoy a delicious three-course welcome dinner. D
Day 2 Christmas Eve - Edinburgh
After tucking in to a full Scottish breakfast, we'll get to know Edinburgh on a guided walking tour which will introduce you to many of the city's highlights. We'll start with the iconic Edinburgh Castle which sits atop Castle Rock and then travel along the Royal Mile to St Giles' Cathedral with its famous crown spire. We'll also visit Princes Street Gardens, a public park set in a valley between the New and Old Towns. As well as a diverse range of plants and trees, it's also home to an interesting collection of monuments and memorials.
Next, we will visit the Holyrood Distillery for a one-hour fully-guided tour, which includes tastings of whisky and gin, and an opportunity to learn how these spirits are produced. Back at the hotel, we'll enjoy a three-course dinner followed by a game of bingo or a classic film. B,D
Day 3 Christmas Day - Edinburgh at leisure
It's Christmas Day, so enjoy a leisurely morning before gathering with your fellow travellers for a traditional festive lunch.
You can do just as you please this afternoon - maybe you'll head off for a walk in the Old Town or just relax at the hotel. We'll get together again this evening for a light dinner. B,L,D
Day 4 Boxing Day - Royal Yacht Britannia
We've a great morning excursion today, with a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia. Once the floating royal residence of Her Majesty the Queen, the ship is now permanently berthed in Leith, just a short drive from the centre of Edinburgh. As you step aboard for an audio tour of the five main decks, you'll be following in the footsteps not only of members of the Royal Family but world leaders including Sir Winston Churchill and Nelson Mandela. Highlights include the State Apartments, the crew's quarters and the engine room. Afterwards, we head to the south side of Edinburgh and visit the Rosslyn Chapel, a remarkable 15th century building used as a filming location for the Da Vinci Code.
This evening we will get together for a farewell Gala dinner. B,D
Day 5 Edinburgh
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before you check out of the hotel and make your way back home. B
