Day 1

Local departure by coach or Door-to-Door service, then to Belgium for an overnight stay.

Day 2 

To Bavaria, for a three-night stay. B

Day 3 - Munich and Dachau

We start with the rise of National Socialism in Munich and Hitler’s involvement in the November 1923 Putsch. We see the Ludwig’s Bridge, then visit the Hofbrau House where Hitler gave many of his early speeches. At the Odeonplatz we see where Hitler was when war was declared in 1914, then on to other Third Reich sites in Munich, including the site of the Brown House. After lunch we travel to Dachau, to consider the ‘Final Solution’ at one of the first Concentration Camps. B

Day 4 - Berchtesgaden

We travel to the Eagle’s Nest (weather permitting), built for Hitler’s fiftieth birthday. We also see the visitors’ centre and tunnels in Berchtesgaden, and the stunning war memorial murals. B

Day 5 - Nuremberg

We head to Nuremberg, where we look at the sites connected with the many Nazi rallies of the Third Reich, including the Zeppelinfeld and Luitpold. Overnight in Nuremberg/Erlangen area. B

Day 6 - Nuremberg Trials

We look at the story of the post-war Nuremberg Trials, visiting the court where they took place and museum. The original courtroom 600 is still in use and, subject to modern-day demands, we also go into the courtroom itself. Continue to Berlin area for a four-night stay. B

Day 7 - Berlin

In Berlin we start at the Reichstag area, walking to the nearby Brandenburg Gate and the site of Hitler’s Bunker before visiting the ‘Topography of Terror’ museum. After lunch we travel to the 1936 Olympic Stadium. In the Grunewald area of West Berlin we see where decisions were made about the ‘Final Solution’ at Wannsee and visit ‘Gleis 17’ the memorial site to Berlin’s Jews who were deported to the death camps in the East. B

Day 8 - Sachsenhausen &and Ravensbrück Camps

Today we visit Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp just outside Berlin which was used to detain mainly political prisoners. Later we travel to Ravensbrück Concentration Camp. This was a women’s camp where Violette Szabo GC was murdered in 1945. B

Day 9 - Battle of Berlin

The end of the Third Reich came in April 1945 with the Allied advance on Berlin. Today, we look at the Battle of the Seelow Heights. We then visit Treptower Park Russian Cemetery and see the Karlshorst Museum. B

Day 10

Munster Travel to Munster to visit the superb German Panzer Museum. Overnight stay in the Bucholz/Hodenhagen area. B 

Day 11

We travel to Lüneburg Heath where the British took the surrender of German forces in May 1945 and visit Becklingen War Cemetery, Soltau. Continue to our overnight hotel in Holland. B

Day 12

Return home. B

Your Hotels

You will stay for three nights at the 3-star Hotel Johannisbad in Bad Aibling or the NH Munich Messe, followed by one night at the 3-star NH Erlangen or the Fuerther Mercure Nuernberg West. You will then stay for four nights at the 3-star Vienna House Easy, or similar, on the utskirts of Berlin. You will also stay for one night at a minimum 3-star hotel in the Bucholz/Hodenhagen area.

Overnight stays in Belgium and Holland will be in city-style hotels.

Travel Door to Door

If you live within 20 miles of one of Leger's free joining points they will pick you up from your home and take you to meet your transfer vehicle, then return you back home at the end of your holiday.
