Holiday
Bruges is a city that feels like it’s been lifted from a storybook — a place of winding cobbled streets, romantic bridges, peaceful canals, and stunning medieval architecture. But for three special Sundays each year, it becomes something even more extraordinary — the setting for one of Europe’s greatest open-air flea markets: the Bruges Zandfeesten.
Sprawling across the vast ’t Zand square and flowing into the nearby boulevards and side streets, the Zandfeesten features over 500 stalls offering everything from antique books, records, and artworks to vintage homeware, linens, toys, curios, and forgotten treasures. Whether you're a seasoned collector or a casual browser, it's the perfect place to rummage, discover and haggle.
But it’s not just about what’s for sale — the atmosphere is what makes it truly special. There’s a festival-like energy, with local street performers, food vendors serving Belgian waffles, beer and fries, and crowds of happy bargain-hunters soaking up the sights and sounds of this unique market day.
And when you’re ready for a break, Bruges itself is a joy to explore. From horse-drawn carriages clip-clopping past Gothic spires to peaceful boat cruises gliding through the canals, it’s a city brimming with charm. Climb the Belfry, relax in Markt Square with a glass of Brugse Zot, or just stroll the backstreets where every turn reveals another picture-perfect scene.
To round off your Belgian escape, we’ll also visit the elegant coastal town of Ostend. Known for its long beach promenade, sea air, and relaxed café culture, it’s a wonderful way to end the trip before heading home.
With time to shop, explore and unwind, this short break blends the thrill of the flea market with the beauty of Bruges and the coast of Flanders.
