Your Excursions: Gems of North Wales
Full day
Today we head onto the Isle of Anglesey to visit Beaumaris, boasting a magnificent castle, pretty pier and lovely promenade. From here we join our boat cruise along the scenic Menai Straits, passing Victorian piers, lavish homes on ‘Millionaire Row’, towards the iconic bridges of Thomas Telford and Robert Stephenson, the infamous ‘Swillies’ and the islands of Tysilio and Yns Gored.
Full day
We head through the Snowdonia National Park on our way to Portmeirion Village, created by architect Clough Williams-Ellis in 1925 as a purpose built holiday destination and finished in 1976. Used as the setting for the popular 1960’s TV series, The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan, the village is now considered to be one of Wales’ premier attractions.
Half day
To Llangollen this morning on the banks of the River Dee, where we board our boat for the journey across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the longest and highest cast iron aqueduct on earth - the 'River in the Sky'.
