Today we will walk to the Balze in Volterra and take in views of these spectacular cliffs created by soil erosion. After the walk there will be time for you to explore the charming town of Volterra at your own pace. You could choose to visit the Etruscan museum and discover more about the town's history or maybe you'd prefer to watch an alabaster master at work.
Day 3 - Certaldo
We will visit the medieval hilltop town of Certaldo today and enjoy a ride on the funicular. We'll enjoy delightful views of the surrounding countryside and wander around the historic streets.
Day 4 - Devil's Valley
Walk 9km - 3hrs
Today's walk takes us through the unusual landscape of Devil's Valley in Larderello. In this geologically active area, boiling hot springs rise to the surface, shrouded in billowing white smoke.
Later there will be time to explore the village of Larderello, where you could choose to visit the geothermal museum and learn more about the use of geothermal energy over the years.
Day 5 - Siena and San Gimignano
San Gimignano and Siena are charming medieval hilltop towns which have barely changed since the Middle Ages. San Gimignano, one of the loveliest towns in Tuscany, is also known as the ‘town of beautiful towers’ due to the vast numbers that were built here by feuding families as a status symbol in medieval times.
Siena's medieval town centre is one of the most perfectly preserved in Europe. You're sure to be enchanted by the spectacular fan-shaped Piazza del Campo, which is the setting for the exciting and colourful Palio horse race, held twice a year. Discover both towns on today's optional full-day visit.
Day 6 - Lajatico
Walk 9km - 3hrs
Join us on a walk to the little town of Lajatico, the birthplace of opera singer Bocelli. We'll make our way through the beautiful Tuscany hills on foot, and when we arrive in Lajatico we'll see the open-air venue, the Silence Theatre. Bocelli performs a concert here every summer and for the remainder of the year the stage is transformed into a lake.
Day 7 - Pisa and Lucca
Today is free for you to enjoy as you wish, or alternatively we offer an optional excursion to Pisa and Lucca. In Pisa we'll see one of Italy's most famous sights, the Leaning Tower, before we continue on to Lucca, a medieval town surrounded by impressive walls.
Day 8 - Pisa to UK
Today we fly back to the UK.
