Itinerary

Richmond, Wensleydale Creamery and Black Sheep Brewery (full day)

Our first stop is the historic market town of Richmond. Founded by the Normans in 1071, the town grew up around the castle whose impressive keep still dominates its surroundings. Elegant Georgian buildings frame the cobbled market place and there are a wide variety of shops, galleries and an indoor market to browse.

We continue on to the Wensleydale Creamery, set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and home of the Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese, made famous by Wallace and Gromit! After free time for lunch (not included), we enjoy an interactive tour, learning about the thousand-year history of cheese-making in the Dales and watching the cheese being made. There’s also the chance to savour the finished product in the Cheese Shop.

Later, we make our way to the Black Sheep Brewery, an independent, family-run brewery set in an old maltings overlooking the town of Masham. Here we take a look behind the scenes on our guided tour which tells the Black Sheep story as well as giving us an insight into how the beers are made, finishing with a tasting of some of the delicious beers.

York (full day)

We visit the historic city of York. Make time for the glorious York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe with world-famous stained glass windows. Other highlights include the narrow cobbled streets of the ‘Shambles’ where the buildings date back to medieval times, the Jorvik Centre which tells the story of York’s Viking heritage, and the ancient walls surrounding the city. The famous Betty’s tea rooms are also worth a visit.

Pickering, North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Goathland (full day)

We begin our day with some free time in the bustling market town of Pickering, set at the edge of the majestic North York Moors, where there are plenty of shops, cafés and tea rooms to enjoy.

Next, we board our train for a nostalgic journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, travelling through stunning scenery to the heritage station at Goathland, which played the role of 'Hogsmeade' station in the early Harry Potter films. We enjoy time at leisure in this lovely moorland village, better known as ‘Aidensfield’ on the TV series Heartbeat. Later, we head back to the station for our return train journey to Pickering.
